At this year’s 5G Summit, Qualcomm announced new features for the Snapdragon X70 Modem-RF System that further improves the speed and stability of 5G connections. This is big news because it’s capable of peak download speeds of up to 10Gbps.

Building on its modem-to-antenna solution announced during the last MWC, the company is introducing the new Qualcomm Smart Transmit 3.0. The upgraded system-level feature now supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth transmit power management that enables real-time averaging of transit power across 2G-5G, mmWave, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth.

Intelligently managing transmit power increases uplink throughput and coverage to improve speeds and optimization whether over cellular, Bluetooth, or Wi-Fi.

In addition to Smart Transmit 3.0, Qualcomm also introduces the world’s first 5G standalone mmWave connection. Speeds peaked at more than 8Gbps.

At its test labs in San Diego, Qualcomm was able to deploy 5G mmWave networks and devices without anchoring on a sub-6 GHz spectrum. The standalone connection gives operators more flexibility in delivering faster speeds with low latency to customers, whether residential or commercial.

Additionally, Qualcomm also showcased the Snapdragon X70’s AI-enhanced 5G performance and carrier aggregation across three TDD channels resulting in peak download speeds of up to 6 Gbps.

As for availability, Qualcomm is currently sampling to select customers. Commercial devices are expected to launch later on in the year.
