Fitbit may have developed a successor to the Charge 5, a fitness tracker that the company launched a year ago yesterday. For reference, Fitbit announced the Inspire 3, Sense 2 and Versa 4 this week, so it seems unlikely that it will reveal another fitness tracker or smartwatch anytime soon. As the screenshots below highlight, Fitbit has certified 'FB423' with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the US, an essential step in bringing a product to market there.

While the FCC documentation does not reveal the FB423's model name, 9to5Google believes it to be the Charge 6. According to the website, FB423 mirrors what it saw having decompiled the latest version of Google Play Services, which contains references to 'Charge 6'. Unfortunately, neither source has revealed what the Fitbit Charge 6 looks like yet. Presumably, the Charge 6 will resemble its predecessor though, with a narrow display connected seamlessly to one of many watch bands.

Unsurprisingly, FB423 supports Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), NFC, GPS and GLONASS. Additionally, the FCC mentions that it tested a production unit in July, not a prototype. Hence, it seems likely that Fitbit is almost finished developing FB423, if it has not already done so. However, with Fitbit describing the Inspire 3, Sense 2 and Versa 4 as its 'fall lineup', the Charge 6 could be destined for a winter release instead, quite possibly alongside other product refreshes.
