In addition to the ZTE Axon 40 Ultra which is a full-flagship device, the company also unveiled the ZTE Axon 40 Pro which is a pretty decent flagship too. This device comes with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 SoC which is a pretty popular processor. This mid-range to flagship processor is pretty popular. This chip is based on TSMC’s 7nm process and adopts a 1+3+4 three-cluster architecture design. The maximum CPU frequency is 3.2GHz, and the GPU is Adreno 650. On AnTuTu, this processor breaks through the 700,000 points and it is pretty powerful. However, considering that the latest flagships exceed 1,000,000, this chip is quickly becoming mid-range at best.

According to Jiang Linxu of ZTE, this chip is a new generation device that achieves the best balance between performance and power consumption. As Qualcomm’s 8-series flagship chip, from CPU to GPU, to AI capabilities, it has everything that a decent smartphone will need.

This device comes with two major selling points, the chip and the camera. In addition to the SD870, this device also comes with a 100-megapixel ultra-high-definition main camera. This camera has an aperture of f/1.89, a 1/1.52-inch large-size sensor, and 2.1μm equivalent pixels. It performs very well in low-light imaging and clarity. This device also comes with a separate depth-of-field camera.

In addition, the ZTE Axon 40 Pro also has an 8-megapixel, 120-degree ultra-wide-angle camera. It also comes with a 4cm macro camera and an independent depth-of-field camera. This lens combination makes the image performance balanced and comprehensive. It is worth noting that the ZTE Axon 40 Pro uses a smart antenna, supports high-speed rail mode, quickly finds a network, and has a super-strong signal.

ZTE’s first 100-megapixel mobile phone

In the smartphone industry, the bigger pixel does not usually need better images. However, the ZTE Axon 40 Pro does not only use a big pixel but also has decent software optimization. The ZTE Axon 40 Pro brings the company’s first 100MP smartphone.

In terms of ID design, ZTE Axon 40 Pro adopts a classic double-ring design, with a “hyperbolic curve” on the side and a 2.3mm ultra-narrow middle frame. It has a body thickness of 8.46mm and a weight of 199g. Of course, it is a bit lighter than its big brother, Axon 40 Ultra. Furthermore, users can handle this smartphone with a single hand without pressure. This device is also available in three colour options including magic night black, crystal mist blue, and star orange colours.

In terms of display, the new phone comes with a 6.67-inch AMOLED flexible curved screen. This display supports intelligent adjustment from 60Hz to 144Hz, 100% coverage of the DCI-P3 wide colour gamut, 10bit colour depth, a maximum peak brightness of 1000 nits, and a maximum of 3 million to 1 contrast.

As for its hardware, the ZTE Axon 40 Pro does not disappoint. In addition to the Snapdragon 870 SoC, this device also comes with a built-in 5000 mAh large battery, supports 66W fast charging, dual speakers with DTS sound, and the same X-axis linear motor as the Axon 40 Ultra.
